The Stuff That Goes With It

Murray Custom Leather Quick Set Rifle Sling with C-2 Rifle Shell Holders Sheriff Jim WilsonWhen we are getting ready for a hunt, we spend a lot of time and thought on the right firearm, optics, and ammunition. And, while all of that is important, it is not the end of the search for stuff that supports our hunt.

For a number of years now I have been using leather gear manufactured by Dick Murray at Murray Custom Leather. Dick is located up in North Texas and is a life-long hunter himself. From his hunting experiences all over the world, Dick has figured out what gear a serious hunter needs to make his hunt a success. Since he couldn’t find exactly what he needed, Murray just started making it himself and soon had a thriving business.

I’ve used his Quick Set rifle sling on my Ruger .375 with great success. Made from vegetable tanned saddle leather, this sling looks extremely simple. And simple, along with top quality, is nice when you are selecting hunting gear. The Murray Quick Set sling has a unique locking system that allows a hunter to quickly adjust the sling for proper length when going from simply carrying the rifle to using the sling as a shooting aid.

I also use Murray’s C-2 Rifle Shell Holders for carrying extra ammo. I like the version that is all leather, while Il Ling New uses the version that has the shell loops constructed out of heavy elastic material. This open-top shell holder allows for quick reloads which are especially important since I generally hunt with a single-shot rifle.

In addition to slings and shell holders, Murray Custom Leather offers a complete line of cartridge belts, gun cases, and saddle scabbards. All are made from top quality leather that will last the user for years.

Dick Murray always has a booth at the SCI show. Stop by and visit with him. He’s a nice guy and full of good information about hunting and hunting gear.
